NYC Pride Store Associate

Position Summary

This is a part-time position with a start date in mid-February. The position reports to the Operations Manager and assists in driving sales of NYC Pride merchandise and maintaining the daily operation of the NYC Pride Shop. The associate will play a vital role in creating a friendly experience for all visitors to the Pride Shop, many of whom will be traveling from across the globe to celebrate Pride.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create a friendly, accessible, and fun environment for Pride Shop visitors by providing outstanding customer service, from the moment a guest enters the store through to the point of purchase.
  • Gain an understanding of available products available in the Pride Shop, including clothing apparel and digital content.
  • Make sure pamphlets and marketing collateral are stocked at all times.
  • Work alongside the Operations Manager to identify opportunities to boost sales.
  • Meet daily sales goals by cross selling product offerings to customers.
  • Maintain the physical appearance of the store by periodically stocking and tidying fixtures per store procedures so that all presentations are appealing.
  • Reporting issues to the Operations Manager when issues arise so that they can be handled in a timely manner.

Qualifications / Knowledge / Skills Required

  • An Associate’s degree or high school diploma.
  • Two or more years of retail sales and/or tourism industry experience.
  • Familiarity with point of sale (POS) systems.
  • Promote NYC Pride's roster of events and programming for the 2020 Pride season.
  • A strong personal work ethic and enthusiastic commitment to the mission of NYC Pride and the Stonewall movement.
  • Maintain a friendly, personable, and professional demeanor at all times. Position will have constant contact with the public, as well as frequent interactions with volunteers and sponsors of NYC Pride.
  • Empathy and tact to turn a frustrated customer into a happy one through your natural problem solving skills.
  • A high level of attention to detail in order to maintain presentation standards.
  • Remain calm under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time and to lift objects up to 25 pounds.
  • Availability to work days, nights and weekends as assigned.
  • Bilingual Spanish a plus!

Work Conditions

The work requires moderate physical exertion, including: bending, kneeling, stooping/standing, and lifting/moving heavy objects.

The work takes place in a retail setting. The work entails some exposure to cold, heat, and varied weather conditions as a result of delivery management.

The Pride Shop is open Tuesday thrugh Sunday (closed Mondays) and requires frequent daytime/evening/weekend work. Some holiday work is required.
